Department of Physiotherapy - Welcome by the President

 

The Department of Physiotherapy was established in 2019 (Government Gazette 70/Α΄/ 07-05-2019) and its first graduates were sworn in, in November 2023.

It belongs to the School of Health Sciences of the University of Peloponnese along with the departments of Nursing, Speech Therapy, Nutrition Science and Dietetics. It is the fifth University Department of Physiotherapy in Greece and is one of the three Sparta based Departments of the University of Peloponnese.


Mission of the Physiotherapy Department of the University of Peloponnese is both the provision of high-quality studies to its students, as well as the production of high-quality research internationally oriented.

Physiotherapy, which the Department serves, is a dynamic science, which with ever-increasing research establishes and revises the findings that support its daily practice. The Department aims at theoretical, clinical and practical training of its students. Objective of the Physiotherapy Department, is the cultivation of analytical and critical thinking, supporting students to actively participate in the learning process, which is a continuous lifelong education, so that they can work as autonomous professionals or as members of the health team and can competently carry out Physiotherapy rehabilitation of the patient.

The study content of the Department covers the academic subject of the Science of Physiotherapy, which aims to prevention, improvement and rehabilitation of pathological conditions, inherited or acquired, as well as traumatic injuries that cause disorders in the muscular, muscular, nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular system.

The curriculum is aligned with the guidelines of the World Confederation for Physiotherapy (World Confederation for Physical Therapy - WCPT), according to which, Physiotherapy provides services to people so they can succeed in developing, sustaining and restoring maximum strength and functional capacity during their lifetime (https://www.wp.org/).

The profession of physical therapist, through WCPT, belongs to the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) and participates as an independent health profession, such as doctors, pharmacists, dentists and nurses. The program of studies corresponds to a recognized scientific field with recognized professional rights, as defined by PD90/1995, Government Gazette 53, section A and Article 34 of Law 4316/2014.

The faculty members and the scientific collaborators of the Department, have high academic qualifications and significant experience in education and research, on various academic subjects and research interests, covering a significant range of scientific knowledge. They will be by your side in their years of your studies by providing their knowledge and experience as trainers and academic advisors.
